What the Amman branch does

The Amman branch coordinates regional work: gathering and translating civil and corporate records, keeping communication moving in Arabic and English, and handling the practical distance between a family or a company in the region and a filing in the United States. Amman is generally seven or eight hours ahead of Florida, depending on daylight-saving time, and meetings are scheduled around that.

All U.S. legal advice, representation and professional judgment are provided or supervised by Ramie AlTawil from the Coral Gables office. The branch does not give U.S. legal advice.

Documentation and compliance

Documentation is often one of the most demanding parts of cross-border matters involving the region. Source-of-funds preparation, corporate registration documents, ownership and shareholding evidence, board and authority records, transaction structure and sanctions and compliance screening all have to be assembled in a form a U.S. adjudicator or counterparty will accept, often translated and often reconciled across two very different documentary traditions.

Organizing the record carefully from the beginning can reduce inconsistencies and allow the firm to respond efficiently if an adjudicator or counterparty requests additional evidence.

Admissions

Ramie AlTawil is admitted in Florida and the District of Columbia and before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The firm does not maintain an office in Washington, D.C., and it maintains no office in the Middle East other than the Amman branch.
